What is Laser Vision Correction

The most common Laser Vision Correction (LVC) procedures are performed with an excimer laser that corrects vision by reshaping the cornea to improve the way light is focused or “refracted” by the eye. Both LASIK and ASA are proven to be very effective in correcting refractive errors. However, there are several factors that should be considered when deciding which treatment is best for you.
WHAT ARE MY TREATMENT OPTIONS?
LASIK
Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis, otherwise known as LASIK, is by far the most common method for permanent vision correction. It is a procedure which involves creating a flap and using an excimer laser to reshape the cornea to correct for your visual errors.
LASIK has become the procedure of choice for most people due to quicker recovery time and minimal discomfort following the procedure. Most people are 20/20 and can go about their normal activities the very next day.

ASA
Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA) is a procedure that involves treating the surface of the cornea rather than treating underneath a flap. The same excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea to correct for your visual errors. Once the procedure is complete the epithelial cells begin regenerating immediately and are completely healed within 3-5 days.
This is a great alternative for those who have irregularities in the surface of their corneas or have corneas that are too thin for LASIK. Vision recovers more gradually after ASA and most people can resume their normal activities after 5-7 days.
